Mom came back early today and as we left home at 7pm I turned on the radio as I always do. The news we heard was insane, the government just announced a 30% from RM1.92 to RM2.70 per liter (USD0.52 to USD0.74 per liter) hike in fuel prices effective midnight.
I knew there'll be major traffic problems tonight and sure enough there were vehicles everywhere. We picked up Nic from the kindy and proceeded towards the SS2 commercial area. Getting there was not that easy and I had to make a few detours before we got there. We had dinner at Nam Heong as their business has been so bad lately that they had a promotion of a single plate of chicken rice plus Chinese tea for RM3.90 (USD1.08). This is almost the price at a regular coffee shop (RM3.80). Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the place was empty and we were the only customers. The quality of the chicken definitely was poor compared to before.
After dinner we headed to Baker's Cottage to select a cake for Nic. She browsed through the catalogue and chose a Hello Kitty (pic) cake.
Next we stopped by Savemart (a couple of doors away) and Nic insisted on having some candy. We left the area at about 9pm and traffic was still choked up. Everywhere there was a gas station there would be vehicles obstructing traffic.
I had just under a quarter tank of fuel left but the thought of joining the mad crowds never crossed my mind. I would if refueling meant it could last me another 60 days!
