Butterfly Lovers @ KLPAC

Saturday: We watched the musical based on ancient (circa 265-420 AD) China's version of 'Romeo & Juliet'. Susan and I had to read the English subtitles. Nicole had no trouble being conversant in Mandarin.

Two Cincalok ...

Nic has been singing this - a Malaysian Peranakan version of The Twelve Days of Christmas.

Today was Nic's first DanceSport lesson. Over fifty kids attended last week's trial and it was good to see the children show so much excitement. Instructor Miss Yukiko Hori who runs Dance Xpress studio was wonderful with the kids and taught them the cha cha cha!

Although I did not get to attend today's class I am sure Nic was even more excited cos she got her dancing shoes!

A wonderful musical comprising of Malaysians (except for Broadway vet Kris Coleman, boy can he sing!).

Undoubtedly Sammie's biggest fan. Nic sure was excited!

Bringing On Back The Good Times - Love Affair

Here's a song that suddenly came to my mind. It's from the 60's and for me - a classic! Yeah, good times, the sixties. Something about British bands, they rock! It was a number nine hit for the band in 1969. Watch the video and you'll be taken back in time!

Preschool Concert

Today was the day the children had been waiting for. All the effort by the teachers and kids culminates today. Nic was so excited that she had trouble getting to sleep last night. She woke up bright-eyed and all ready for the concert.

Nicole participated in four items namely, the opening singing of the national anthem (above), a Mandarin dance number, an English song and for me the highlight an Indian Bhangra uptempo dance, "Tunuk Tunuk Tun".

Nic will still be attending daycare but for the kids who are solely kindergarten, it's goodbye. Grace Kindergarten has been a wonderful experience for Nic and us. We are extremely privileged to have had such a dedicated and caring group of teachers. Thank you very much!

Bob Fitts - Love Remains

We attended Glad Tidings PJ to watch Bob Fitts , a singer, songwriter who is gifted in leading worship. As the Saturday slot is primarily a youth meeting, the majority of the attendees were just that - youth. In fact I'd say over 30 per cent were college students mainly from Botswana many whom already attended the first session the day before.

Barely a minute into the opening song, Bob breaks a string on his guitar and he played on to finish the song. His wife Kathy promptly helped re-string his guitar. I must say the Botswanan worshiped freely unlike most of us who tend to be more 'restrained'.

It was good to watch Bob live as we had enjoyed his earlier songs like He Will Save You and You Are My All in All. Bob will be leading a tour to the Holy Land next March - I can imagine what an experience it would be.

Clean Hands or Dirty Hands

Nicole used to learn quite a number of songs during her time in the previous kindergarten so I was naturally surprised that she hardly learned any at Grace Kindy. That all changed as she began to sing a couple of songs last week.

Today she sang an old Sunday School favorite I had almost forgotten, "Clean Hands or Dirty Hands" and "Down In My Heart" (click to listen), written by George Willis Cooke [23 April 1848-30 April 1923]. Ah, memories of my time at Sunday Schools at the BBGS and Setapak Sunday School.

Surprise, surprise! Wait till Nic sees this later today. Nicely done Sammie! We should start karaoke (boy I can't remember the last time I did it) sessions or something. Of course I'd need a couple of beers to smooth out the old vocal chords first.



Sam, do include "miley cyrus" etc into your You Tube tags. Let's see how many hits you can get!

King of Pop Michael Jackson is dead

Thursday: The King of Pop was pronounced dead at about 2:26pm PDT (Friday 5:26am Malaysian time) after arriving at a Los Angeles hospital in full cardiac arrest, said Fred Corral of the Los Angeles County Coroner's office.

"Wacko Jacko" as he was infamously nicknamed lived a colorful life. Musically he was a genius. I am not a big fan but I'd say he moved me. Just watch videos like Beat It, Billie Jean and Thriller.

American Idol Finale!

We thoroughly enjoyed the show especially with appearances by mega stars like Lionel Richie, Rod Stewart (man, I can't believe Hio Rod is 64! He hardly looks a day over 50! Botox is king!) and Queen. But Nic's favorite was the rock band Kiss. The outfits, make-up and most of all, the tongue-wagging really got to her.

Fantastic! Oh yes, and the under-dog Kris Allen won it. Somehow we all had the feeling he'd win it. I am sure Kris and Adam will both make it big!

Nic still fretting over the showcase

Nic is still upset about missing the Archuleta show. On Monday she said she told her classmates about it but none of them has a clue about what she's talking about. So the next day she brought the ticket to show them and this time just one kid recognised Archuleta.

When I picked her up today she complained to me that You Jun tore up her ticket. Naughty boy!

David Archuleta Showcase

Sammie sent me an sms on Friday that she has two extra tickets to the showcase. Nic was so excited upon hearing this. Alas the Einsteins (Sony Music?) over-printed the supposed "hard-to-get" tix by perhaps 2000. At least that's what a staff explained. Turned out the amphitheater could only accommodate 4000, at most 5000 people and fans who were queueing up (under the blazing sun) even before 2pm were turned away at around the time we arrived which was about 2.30pm (I think).

So the four of us trooped off dejectedly (I know Nic was) and flagged a cab back to Sunway Pyramid. Here's a pic (third photo, extreme right) of Sarah (hmm, is that a grin I see?) and part of Sammie in a blog I googled today.

Daddy's Girl

This was gospel singer Bob Carlisle's only number one hit and I read somewhere when it first hit the airwaves that people were calling up radio stations in US asking about the song and some even pulled over by the road to listen and yeah cried.

What's a butterfly kiss you ask? "A butterfly kiss happens when you get your eyelashes up against some else's bare skin, so close that when you blink, your eyelashes caress the other person's skin." Tickles too.

The song brought tears to my eyes too when I heard it back in '97 mainly coz I felt we were never going to have a child of our own. And now that we have our own baby girl the song is even more relevant! I chanced upon Cliff Richard's (another fave singer of mine) version today and it is cool. Cliffy sings it like he is a super daddy. Bet he would make a great dad!

Butterfly Kisses has gone on and become a favorite at weddings. Apparently the father of the bride would either sing it or wing it. Or at least dance with their daughter to it!

I Don't Like Mondays

One of my favorite songs and now a cool fan video of House MD (my favorte doc)! "I Don't Like Mondays" was a UK number one single for four weeks in July 1979. Written by Bob Geldof and performed by The Boomtown Rats, it was the band's second number one single.
