What's Cookin'

Taekwondo; Nic took her grading last week and there were a few unconvincing moves so we wondered if she'd pass. Well, good news is everyone passed. Nic is now a Junior Blue belt. I suppose passing marks are quite low.

Dinner; We had banana leaf lunch at Kanna Curry House for lunch so felt full and thought we'd have a light home-cooked dinner.  The South Indian curry house has switched from serving real banana leaves to bio-degradable paper ones. Initially it encountered much concern from patrons whether it would pose a health hazard. Apparently the product is safe and customers are now accustomed to it. We had a satisfying 'hands-on' meal.

Nic cooked her first scrambled eggs today. I'd say she did good, cracking two eggs and frying them. It tasted good too. We are considering enrolling her for some basic cooking class during the year end holidays. Who knows, this could be the start of something special!

Dad's Little Helper

My little helper keeping watch on the clams. The kitchen can be a dangerous place for children and it is off limits for Nic when I am cooking. However this time I let her get some hands-on experience she so desperately craves for - for just a few seconds.

Cooking

Not since I was down with the pox myself about fourteen years ago have I been stuck indoors for so many days. And I have never had to cook for so many consecutive days in my life. Cooking has always been a chore for me. The prep work, the actual cooking and the cleaning up after. I have to say it has been almost automatic for me now.

Nic has been coping rather well and her imagination has kept her busy for ten days now. She must be missing wearing nice clothes so here she is all dressed up with nowhere to go.

What's for Dinner? Chicken Pox

I can't remember when I had eaten spinach so many times in my life. I gotta learn to cook other stuff although Nic doesn't seem to tire of it. Yeah, we had spinach soup (again) and fried rice.

Breaking News! Nic gulped down the soup but did not eat much rice. Within an hour she puked and mum noticed about six red fluid-filled rashes on her chest and neck. No surprise as quite a few of her kindy mates are already down with it (including Addison). Better to catch it now than later like me. I got it at age 33 and it took over 30 days for it to clear. I had to endure a bland diet all that time.

Nic Loves Veggies

I try to cook at least once a week as we eat out daily. Being near hopeless at cooking, it is either spaghetti or some basic dish.

I cooked a simple dinner today comprising spinach with tofu, scrambled eggs and fried fish. She loves spinach and ate the whole serving. Unlike most kids, she loves veggies, especially the leafy type, pure cod fish liver oil and even medicine when she's unwell.

That said, she is quite easy to care for except when it comes to candies, that's when the challenge begins.

The Toaster is Toast!

Nic experienced an electrical 'blow-out' up close today. I was about to put a slice of bread into the toaster when we heard a series of popping sound plus sparks flying about.

Nic was closer to the toaster as she was digging at the butter again. I was just a foot further at the sink. My first instinct was to make sure she was safe but I didn't need to worry as Nic ran for dear life.

The commotion woke up mummy sleepyhead and Nic gave her a quick report on what happened. I checked the toaster and found the wire broken in two and the sparks left a mark on the wall tile.

Cooking at home

I cooked dinner, simple stuff of course and little Nic was so eager to help that I allowed her to peel the shell off a hard- boiled egg and clean the rice.

Nic likes red cabbage in thousand island topping so the egg was part of the dish.

Home Cooking

Watching all that Asian Food Channel must have rubbed off on Susan as she decided to cook dinner and so the 'adventure' began. After what seemed like an eternity we sat down for dinner. What did she cook up in three decades, err I mean hours? Ta-da!

Sue cooked curry chicken, fried wantans and ABC soup. The curry was good so the Action One curry paste (proudly made in Penang) compliments of Candy is good stuff! The wantans were a bit huge and chewy. I could have sworn it bounced a few feet when I dropped one. The soup was well, soup.

But kudos to Sue for her desire to improve.
