To Penang for Mama's 75th Birthday

When Nicole learned that we were flying back to Penang for Mama's birthday she was ecstatic. After all she had never flown before. We were booked on the 0910 flight from Subang and Nic did not need any coaxing to wake up unlike every school day.

The aircraft was the ATR-72 twin turboprop which is the smallest I had ever flown in. Nic sat with Sammie and it was an absolute adventure as far as she was concerned.

Mama's 75th birthday!

Time really flies and we found ourselves at Penang airport for our flight home at 1910.

Barbecue Birthday!

We celebrated Susan's birthday a few days early with a barbecue mostly orchestrated by Sammie (thanks a bunch!) Not forgetting to mention she also prepared most if not everything - the meats, salads. We had a super meal and topped off with the birthday cake - delectable durian cake.

Birthday Surprise at Camp

It is day two at Community Baptist Church's Camp Mission Possible and yesterday was fantastic. Nic thoroughly enjoyed it. We reached the church at 8.10am and her team mates (Team Snow Leopard) on seeing her began to sing 'Happy Birthday'! Now that really was a surprise, to all three of us! Thanks!

Sarah's Birthday

Last night we headed to downtown Kuala Lumpur for Sarah's surprise birthday dinner at 1919. The food was great, as always and Nic and fun with cousins Brandon and Shannon and siblings Shane and Shania.

Nic Turns Six

Happy Birthday Nic Nic! Our baby girl is six today. She is thrilled with her musical box that also doubles as an accessory box. We also got her one of those 'drifting scooters' but it is a Made in China type which is less advanced.

Nic also met a classmate at the mall - Nicholas and they had a blast playing. Lastly we cut the cake at grandma's.

Happy Birthday Sarah!

My, oh my how the years fly by. I remember first meeting Sarah in probably late 1990 and she was still in diapers. Here she is all grown up and embarking on her career.

Happy Birthday and May You Have Many Many More Sweet Birthdays to Come!

Sammie's 20th Birthday Dinner

We had a lovely dinner at Museum restaurant complete with Sam's translation of the  Loh Sang (the act of tossing salad with chopsticks) prosperity phrases - spectacular! And guess who's "back"? Our own Seinfeld - Dencyl cracked us up with his "Kids in the back seat cause accidents. Accidents in the back seat cause kids" joke. Was that meant for Denis?

Loh Sang! Nic actually used chopsticks successfully for the first time!

Happy Birthday Grandma

Friday traffic was at it's usual as we made our way to Wong Poh (the butter crabs are our favorite) to celebrate grandma's 74th birthday. This year we had the pleasure to share it with Uncle Vincent who is back from Hamburg and the Tings from Darwin.

We had dinner at Gen compliments of Mandy. It also turned out to be a birthday celebration for Susan too.

Happy Birthday!

Nic is five years young today and before we head to 1U mum had to stop by the office to complete a task. (above; Nic learned to fax and scan today)

We got tickets for the 3.45pm showing of Night At The Museum 2 : Battle of The Smithsonian. As we had over sixty minutes to showtime we did some browsing (pic; Nic at the TikTakToyz booth).

As with most sequels I think the first one was somewhat better but it was good fun seeing Nicole laughing out loud again. As was last week's case, we had two couples just in front turning around. Not out of disgust but they found Nic to be so adorable being able to understand the jokes (and the movie of course).

Get Together

Friday: The gang arrived from Penang in the evening and we were treated to a sumptuous dinner at Mandy's. The potato cheese and lamb stew was superb (we had it again on Saturday and Sunday). Nic really digs cheesy food, don't we all? After dinner we celebrated Chee Seong's birthday with a cake (sorry, no pics as I did not have my camera - waiting for Sammie to post on fb). Thanks Sammie for the schoolbag! Dang, it looks almost brand new. Wish Nic could look after her stuff like that.

PS. JuLi's got some nice pics here!

Saturday: We had dinner at Jessie's and Nicole was surprised with a birthday cake this time. A sweet cheesecake with five little pink/white angels. Good stuff from Berry's cake shop. Thanks for all the ang pows and gifts (clothes, books).

Sunday: It is Family Day at Yuk Chai school and we had fun on a very, very warm and humid day. Nic had a go at the catapult shooting (pic: total concentration) gallery. I was amazed she got a hang of shooting the gadget at the word go. Real firm shots but her accuracy was not spot on so no prizes here.

Next up was the clothes hanger throwing game. You had to land the hanger onto a "clothesline" from about 5 feet away. This was tough! Nic was moved forward to just two feet and landed two outta three hangers onto the line. She wins a prize! Okay it was just a packet drink but it came at a crucial time when she was very thirsty.

For the finale my mum's "ticket" won the last draw of the event. Lucky number 108 wins a 2-day 1-night stay for two at Bayu Beach Resort in Port Dickson. My mum gave the voucher to us so we have a date in PD soon.

Dinner at TGIF The Curve

Denzie standing on a chair (Friday-style) at TGI Friday's holding a ketchup bottle. Not quite sure what to do with it? A tad uncomfortable. Nic and Kelly's reaction sums it all up!

Happy Birthday Denz!

Grand Mother's Birthday

We had a simple birthday do for grand ma last night. Nicole picked out the chocolate cake and we headed for dinner. After dinner we adjourned to grand ma's and Nic helped get the candles ready. We sang three versions of Happy Birthday, first in English, second and third were solos by Nicole as she sang her "How old are you now?" version followed by the Mandarin version. Good job too!

Happy New Year!

We attended Chloe Lee's (kindy principal's daughter) Birthday Party at McDonald's Bandar Utama today. Attendance was good too with standing room left.

Nic had a blast (as always) choosing to spend most of the time on the "slide" and away from the party games. The party began at 2.30pm and it was birthday cake time at 4.30pm and the cake was a lovely "Mermaidia " themed one. And oh, Chloe accompanied the cake after doing a costume change into her teeny Mermaid suit. Her top piece seemed to be flying off at any moment. And come off it did towards the end. She had to change back into her white gown. Haha!

Mama's 70th Birthday

pics; Mama & grand kids (minus little Shannon who was unwell), Nic and Adele, Sue with Brandon.

We drove back to Penang on Saturday to attend Sue's mom's big 70. We left home at around 10.30 in the morning and stopped for a bite at the Sungai Buloh R & R. This is the slowest I ever drove as our average speed was only 70km per hour. We made one more stop at Tapah R & R for another snack at about 3pm and arrived at 4.30pm.

At 6pm we headed to the photo studio for a family pic and thereafter to the dinner proper. Nic and Brandon and a few of the other kids played a bit.

Dad's Birthday

Sue took us out to San Francisco Steakhouse for dinner last night. Nicole kept busy with the crayons and coloring paper. Kids eat for free so she chose the spaghetti bolognese but just took a few bites. It actually looked like mamak mee goreng and tasted quite bland. No wonder she didn't like it. She enjoyed the soup of the day and finished the bowl and last came strawberry ice cream (her favorite).

Sue got me a small cake from her favorite bakery in Subang (RT Bakery or something).

Happy Birthday!

Nicole turned four today. We had lunch at Wong Poh but Nic did not eat much. She was too excited about getting her cake.

After lunch we collected her cake and had a little birthday do at grandma's place.
