Art for Art's Sake

"Art for art's sake" is the usual English rendition of a French slogan, from the early 19th century, ''l'art pour l'art'', and expresses a philosophy that the intrinsic value of art, and the only "true" art, is divorced from any didactic, moral or utilitarian function. Such works are sometimes described as "autotelic", from the Greek autoteles, “complete in itself”, a concept that has been expanded to embrace "inner-directed" or "self-motivated" human beings. [from wikipedia]

I didn't know about the French stuff. Well actually I remembered this from a 10cc song from the 70s. My faves include The Things we do for Love, Rubber Bullets and I'm Not in Love.

Back to what I wanted to blog about. Nic brought home her art work (water colors & crayons) from kindy. I can't recall exactly when it was she attended art class, probably a couple of months back. FYI picture no. 3 is Nic's version of an airplane. So what do you think?
