We did not feel like going out and ordered Pizza Hut for dinner. Nicole's favorites are pineapples and olives. Yeah, olives! She sure has strange tastebuds. It was great as usual especially the new Honey BBQ chicken! The BBQ sauce was super and the chicken was crunchy.
Lately I had found out that Les Humphries's hit "Mexico" sounds like the "battle of New Orleans".So I also wondered,if Nic Ki's,yummy yummy tastes like the Pizza Hut in our place?
ReplyDeleteBirds of the same feathers flocks together, eehh???
I meant the sound not the taste!
Mexico definitely used Battle of New Orleans melody. I never knew Les Humphries Singers before. Wikied them up and they are from your home, Hamburg!
ReplyDeleteYeah that guy was real sneaky.Like the Italians who wanted Torsten Frings out of the german midfield,so that they could attack in the middle.Frings got the red card but...
ReplyDeletewe still have music and Xavier Naidoo-was wir alleine nicht schaffen( what we can not achieve alone),das schaffen wir ganz zusammen(we will achieve together) for our golden memory.
2010 is coming,watch out Italy!
I was Utube giggin for almost 4 hrs, going back to the early 70's,n I came across BREAD-baby I'm a want you-lyrics,make it with you,if,guitar man,it don't matter to me,etc.Maybe U know David Gates but have U heard of BREAD?Boy were these titles real hot in my teens and the partys too!.To some it may sound sentimental.
ReplyDeleteBut for us rugged jeans,long haired,Johnson boots,Brut smelling,wannabe Hippies,the greatest gifts(the songs) on earth.
To "cool off" we had Rare Earth,Free,DeepPurple,Led Zeppelin,Uriah Heep,Santana,Grand Funk Railroad,Black Sabbath etc.
Nice to be a kid again!.With real ACTION and not a Laptop on my lap!!!!! 4 HOURS!
Bread is also a fave of mine as are England Dan & JF Coley, Hall & Oates and many more.
ReplyDeleteFook Onn (Johnny as he preferred) was into heavy metal so I got a taste of Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath too.
Yeah, BRUT was a luxury then. Today ppl are spoilt for choice with tons of designer stuff.
I am sure you remember local acts like Strollers and Frankie Cheah. I came across this Malaysian (Keith) who posted many Strollers songs on You Tube. He even emailed me all the songs.
ReplyDeleteJust As I Am
I think the 1st time I saw T'Strollers was when I was 11 or 12,n they were having a Gig in section 14/3,practicing B G's,"Ive got to get a message to U".I think their 1st single,n the 2nd title,"I want to thank U(own composition). They were not famous yet!until they landed in the Malaysian Top 10,every Sundays on the air.I never missed them after Mass.
ReplyDelete2nd time I saw them in Stadium Negara(the hall one),playing Santana's hits.They were solid!
Listening to their songs n looking at the album covers,in World global song industry, they had missed the train!
In the 70's,I had to even dropped off the "underground Rock"and switched on to Funky disco rock pop,or Funk Soul.Even the B G's had got the message,n Discos started to pop up like mushrooms playing their hits.(I'm talking about cash making and global fame!)
Pop will always stay, but today Hip Hop,R&B's era.And the most cash the music scene can make nowadays are doing "live" gigs!(CD n Internet copies R giving them a migrane)In the music industry one has to flow with the current and time.Like eating nasi lemak with chicken, boiled egg, cucumber pieces, kacang, etc in it,n not only sambal n ikan bilis(10 cts, those days)in it.
When Hip Hop invaded Europe in the 80's,smart guys swam with the current.Like this Austrian music genius,FALCO,with "rock me Amadeus,Vienna calling, der Kommisar)With JEANNY,he had broken a taboo,in Europe, about child sex abuse, kidnappings, and some DJ's refuse to play his hit.
ReplyDeleteIn the 90's we had girl power with Sabrina Setlur(I think I like it"and Tic Tac Toe(Funky).
N in the 21st century the Batangs came out from their sarongs.SIDO with "Carmen, dirty version",DAS BO with turlich turlich(das original)",and DJ TOMEKK.All these male music artists were expressing the problems of today in Germany with Hip Hop/Rap to send out the message. With 1 very important business marketing strategy!
They refuse to sell JAMBUS in a DURIAN season and they R printing Money!!!!!
What the hack, getting out of track.Am I commenting on fast food or music?Sorryyyyyyyyy$$$$$$$$$%%%%%%%%
Money is the root to all evil,BUT the fruit to all good harvest!
I like Strollers but never saw them live. Only local bands I caught live were Headwind (frontman Zainal Abidin was still with the group) and Heavy Machine (cool group, kinda a M'sian version of Chicago) - whole bunch of instruments (sax, flute and more).
ReplyDeleteThese were the few to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Filipino bands (awesome entertainers) like Fredo & Flinstones. We used to "follow" Fredo to every nite spot they played (Klang Valley that is).
In my teens I was a KMM(kodoks, makan, musik)teen spirit! Most of my friends were Indians and Malays. Not real kakis but "hangouts kakis".Where "live"band are ,we were there. In "Cellar" in PJ,Tin Mine or The Bubbles in KL,I had also seen Filipino bands. They were solid! In the Disco in PJ(Jaya Puri Hotel) now PJ Hilton,I had danced to the music of Alley Cats in 1976,after I came home for holidays. And in Rasa Sayang Penang,I saw them at the Disco there.I think that was before they went to Hong Kong.
ReplyDeleteIn Hamburg we had a fantastic Filipino band in 1975 called "The Please".The lead guitarist and singer"Boy",is as tiny as Prince, can imitate all kinds of voices, from falsetto to Nat King Cole,Earth Wind n Fire. They were the guest band for The Temptations.Their gig were live n The Tempts.were playback. When Please hammered "sex machine",everyone in the front row were out of their seats n dancing in the Hamburg Congress Centrum hall. The Temptations were booed out n everyone left the hall before they had ended their show.
To be honest to you,I had seen Boy doing the "moonwalk" in 1974 in CCH Hamburg, wearing high heels(women) boots, jumping in the air and landing on the floor with his legs spreaded and then slowly coming up again, without hand support.Even before Prince had done it.Later they left for Japan.I was everyweek in Starclub to hear and dance to their music. What a pity we did not have video or digital cameras at that time.In the 60's n 70's Hamburg was a music "base" before groups become famous, like the "BEATLES in Starclub".Even Jimi Hendrix had played in clubs down here.Hamburg is over 800 years old but a solid place to be.It is not a package holidays place, one has to live long to understand the beauty of this place. All my foreign friends up here agreed to it.
If U want to talk to me about Music, makan and Kodoks,I think we need another 50 years to it.I hope I had put it short?????
ReplyDeleteDon' leave her out,Dato Siti Nurhaliza with Lee Hom.With Anita Sarawak, one of my "sayang" female singers!
While searching for the Filipino bands Freestyle and Speedlimit(Playing in Germany),I had bumped to our local Speedlimit. Not bad our locals!
Speedlimit used to entertain us in Hamburg CCH during Philippines Independance day.(Speedlimit-Band .avi ),in Utube.
And to get to Freestyle(music Vid-(freestyle)).The sound system is better than all the cheap Handphone videos clips .Freestyle-Tatoed on my mind,a live gig, sound OK.
For kiddies rap(Kahit bata pa ako)
Whoa, Temptations outdone by opening act and booed!Unbelievable! Yeah I recall Beatles were in Hamburg before they made it big.
ReplyDeleteHamburg SV doing ok in Bundesliga too, joint top with Leverkusen.
Without the great father of soul,James Brown, there is no "Moonwalk".Many guys had seen his acts in LA clubs,n copied him. There R a lot of "Pinoy"(filipino)in LA even before soul was born.If U see "Bebot"from Black eyed peas, they show a bit of their "Admiral Cheng Ho".I think "Boy" had seen it too in LA.
ReplyDeleteIn 2003 we invited Bobby, the former bassist of Please to my girlfriend's birthday party,n he hammered "something stupid",still in form. The trouble with many not all, talented asian musicians R,they can imitate, but they can not write musical notes.A key substance for success in the music business for their own compositions. At least they must sing to some composers songs, who in return can not sing so nicely.
That is why no musicians in this world can "over throne" ABBA,BEATLES n MJ!
Tokio Hotel a teeny german band is trying to conquer the world like the Scorpians did.Not really my taste!
I'm a funky,rap,R&B,pop,latin american sound machine lover.
Have U heard of Selena?Like Aayilah, there were gone too early.
Many soccer players are using hamburg as a "base","recruiting centers" etc before they headed out for more "cash paid" clubs, like Bayern Munich. From there to the Premier league or the Spanish and Italian.Maybe HSV R making this kind of business? They build up a "trainee" n sell him off with enormous win, like the Dutch midfield player for 20 million euros.Rafael was a very good player before he came to Hamburg. But in Holland he was pushed around n no one took notice of him.
ReplyDeleteLook at the line up of our HSV team, not a single "Superstar",young coloured, multi racial and team spirit! But only for the first half of the season! Then the "Headhunters" will come n mess things n cause a havoc in the team. Then these players will play money instead of football.
Germans has a saying,"money change and spoil the character"
Bayern have so many Superstars but R in the 5th place.Soccer is a team game, the ball is always round and the game ONLY ends when the Referee blows the whistle to end the game!.
I think HSV will play around from 4th to under 10th placings at the end of the season. With more injuries, over the 10th.They still lack a consistent top scorer!
If U had seen Bebot generation 1n2,Bebot is a global thing.During my time,we anak PJ call Bebot(Filipino),Kodok(malay)!
ReplyDeleteNothing had really changed n I did not missed a thing!
I meant Selena Quintanilla-Perez!
ReplyDeleteYeah "pinching" players from "smaller" clubs happens all the time. Just look at Real Madrid, Barcelona and Man. U - they have tons of $$$ and buy stars. Did u get to watch Keegan when he was at Hamburg?
ReplyDeleteI did not see Keegan "live"but had followed his era in HSV.They called him the "Mighty Mouse" here.George Best,Kevin Keegan,Mario Kempes n Alan Simonssen were my idols in those days.
ReplyDeleteWikied FAM n bumped to this guy,Lim Teong Kim.What the hell is he doing in Bayern Munich? He should balik kampong,n build up a back up team with our youngsters n to teach them discipline n fighting spirit!
German football play is not attractive n they can't "Samba" like the Brazilians.BUT they have discipline, team and fighting spirit which had brought them 3 World Cup titles,54',74'n 1990 n lots of semi-finals.
When Sepp Herberger said,"the ball is round!"he meant anything can happen in a soccer game.Remember Manu vs Bayern n 2 goals scored in the extra time,n out flew Bayern.Bayern was the whole game leading the score.
Last week HSV were leading 3-2,n let an equaliser in.Plop!back to 2nd place instead of 1st.Leverkusen also played equaliser.Ball not round?.
Equaliser was in the 90th minute!
ReplyDeleteI liked Keegan a lot. I admire his determination to succeed as he was not a highly gifted player but he made up for any flaw with his big heart.
ReplyDeleteI saw Teong Kim with his son at the Immigration in Duta in 2007. I figured it was his son - mixed parentage looks - very good-looking and taller than dad.
He was clutching a passport neatly dressed in full Adidas (Bayern) attire. Yes I also googled him and read he was a member of Bayern's Under-16 coaching staff.
He was a solid national player and with our M'sian soccer "politics" I think he made the right decision staying in Germany. He is one of the locals who actually had some success as a player (Hertha Berlin). Even Singapore's Fandi Ahmad was a flop at Groninjen.
I have always been a fan of the German national side coz while I was playing I can appreciate their discipline. If one is not gifted then discipline is a must. Today I have stopped playing and tend to follow Brazil - fancy footie!
I used to talk with Uncle Francis 'bout F'ball 4 hours on the phone.(at least an hour). If U can communicate, there is less mess in this world! But U must also respect n accept other opinions. This is how a great man is formed. To communicate, listen,to accept,n 2 respect others!Whether a Doc' or a drain sweeper. This is stated in the german Constituition,Article 3.Only people deliberately refuse to understand it,like the phrase,"the ball is round!".And they become "Born losers",the rest of their lives!
