Nic showed us a lovely note from sweet Reyna. The pair are so bubbly that it is a joy to watch them together. Coincidentally Reyna also joined Taekwondo albeit a month after Nic started. They would be chasing each other laughing - not a care in the world. Ah, yes I recall those carefree days when I was a young lad too. What bliss!

I love the way kids write their first sentences.Reminded me of my daughter.
ReplyDeleteI pity the kids as they have to juggle between writing in English, Bahasa and Mandarin so it's no wonder it may take a while for them to improve.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry.Kids have a fantastic gift in learning languages. The only problem is,there must be someone there to talk to them in a certain language.I had a problem in Mandarin, for no one in the family could speak Mandarin.
ReplyDeleteReyna's way of writing is a new way of teaching kids to write. They write the way they hear the sound of the words. And these kids will be oneday better than us,our old Victorian way of education was really boring. In fact,I had a great opportunity to follow Salena's year one,a new method of teaching kids to read and write. It was the first experiment from the University of Hamburg, and a year one toddler writing an essay, almost half a page, really cute!Of course full of spelling mistakes
I think during my time in primary school we started to write essays in year 4 or 5?.Before that was that stupid "Yesterday!"
ReplyDelete"Yesterday I saw a dog flirting with another dog!"And if you have no mistakes,"wah very good man, clever lah!".You will get an "A" for that fatuous sentence,I think?
In advanced countries they had already let the kids play with their imagination and fantasy.Sometimes I had a feeling that our colonial masters are not fond of their sailohs being better than them. The maths books are so boring not like the books here. The books here are so well illustrated, you do not even need a teacher to teach you.You can DIY !
This is also why tuition is an almost extinct word in our place.
To put it simple,it is more fun to study here. What really make me wonder is that the Germans kids are not good in their PISA results, but when it comes to invention and creation, they are at the top of the world!
What I meant to play with their fantasy and imagination was about writing stories in year one.
ReplyDeleteNic's Mandarin has improved a lot in the first 3 months compared to her 2 whole years at kindergarten. She has more confidence now and it won't be long before she mutters at us in Mandarin knowing we can't understand what she's saying.
ReplyDeleteMandarin is a good choice and if you intend to stay in a country you call"home".Then you must also master that language. For me it is the German language.
