1.00pm Hooked up with rally mate Mosses (pic) at the KLCC LRT station. For the next 90 minutes we hung out waiting for go ahead to march to Dataran Merdeka. Thankfully the weather for the most part was mild or else we'd be baked. We each volunteered to be flag bearers - and also stuck a lovely ABU (Asalkan Bukan UMNO) sticker on our shirts for good measure.
2.30pm It is 'GO' time and we learn that we are not taking the short route but instead will pass the tourist/shopping area of Jalan Bukit Bintang. Outside Pavillion mall we spotted a red Range Rover Evoque with NN17 plates (see pic).I found out later it belonged to the late Naza founder's youngest daughter Nadia. When you are so powerful you can get away with these illegal fonts.
3.45pm We reach Masjid Jamek and the crowd in front of Dataran is jam-packed so we decided not to squeeze in but instead take a breather in front of the OCBC building. As we were near the front of the KLCC group we got to watch and cheer the rest of the folks passing us. By now my feet hurt quite a bit. After all, 75 minutes of walking for unfit vets like us is a lot.
The rally was largely calm until the end when a bunch of scums calling themselves Anti-Facists attacked the media and lit up magnesium flares. We saw cops at intervals of every 10 meters so it is very fishy that cops were not around to nab these anarchists. The only arrests were non-violent participants. Just search YouTube and you can judge for yourselves.
We had a cup of tea before calling it a day. All in I'd say the turnout was expected as many had holiday plans and therefore did not turn up. The attendance was in the 30,000 plus range. I dream of the day when a million Malaysians turn up for rallies - for now most rather curl up in their cosy homes and let the minority do the 'walking'. UBAH!
