Penang For The Weekend

We left home about 8.30 in the morning and reached Ipoh to find the Yee Fatt kopitiam closed ... bummer! Should have known that it was the Mid-Autumn Festival (aka Mooncake/Lantern Festival) weekend. There goes our dry curry mee hopes!

My pal Martin arrived later and took us to a kopitiam nearby and we had dry curry mee ala Vietnamese style. It was pretty good. Not a total flop after all. After our meal Martin led us to a fruit seller as we wanted to buy some pomelo or POMELONS as Nic (pic: with JuLi) cheekily calls them.

Nic enjoyed two movies at Unc' Fatt's, Aliens In The Attic (with Candy) and Power Kids (Candy and Kelly). To Unc' Fatt and family thanks a bunch for the hospitality and gifts! Thanks Kelly for the mee goreng and pasembor (we loved it).

  1. Next time just give me a call and I will recommend you Old Town Kopitiam in Ipoh.(recommended by Tai Pak after a spicy debate over chinese Dinosaurs and their "footprints").

Please keep me inform when I balik kampong!Don't wanna kena tipu lah.
Can you imagine eating artificial Cendol???
By the way, there is a fantastic nyonya foodstuff in Malacca. In China town I think? And there is a nightlife there with "live" music and FOOD of course!

  4. Yes we have not been to Melaka for a while now. A trip is due soon.

I don't think the artificial food problem is major here. I'll keep you informed.

  5. Last night I had borrowed 10,000 arrows from my.......fiends from Youtube!
Like admiral Cheng Ho,I went on an adventurous cyber makan gig, with my eyes as wide as his sails,my tummy as hungry as the powerful south east monsoon wind, heading for Melaka.
In my conclusion,I ended up in my kitchen with a packet of japanese noodles to stimulate my obsession for nyonya food.Life can be sometimes very cruel in terms of nutrition!

  6. Have you heard of fusion food?It is like finding out sauerkraut(german sour cabbage)in your delicious Poh Piah.

  7. You Tube is gr8. I luv music and I get to watch all the bands/singers I missed watching (mostly radio then) from the 70s.

Cyber makan gig is fun too but I prefer to google ordinary people's blogs when it comes to food.

    Sauerkraut-poh piah fusion? Sounds interesting.

  8. When I was a kid,I remembered your Dad like cowboy songs(country n western)and your elder siblings,Chipmunks.
    I love black n Motown!Glad that U like the sound of the 70's.Check this guy out,Marvin Gaye.And his hits,"mercy mercy me"and "what's going on"all the version.
And then reverse gear, back to the 60's in memory lane,Marvin with Tammi Terrel(1945-1970)she had brain cancer!

  10. Yeah my dad liked C & W and I know Johnny Horton songs by heart (till now). They were very educational (historical) - songs like Sink the Bismarck (WW II), Johnny Reb (US Civil War) and Battle of New Orleans (US War of Independence).

I never heard Marvin's If This World Were Mine before and after hearing it now - it is way better than Luther Vandross (my fave) version which was way to 'draggy'. Alicia Keys for me cannot be measured against the legends!

I like about any music (rojak) but the real bands like Beatles, Eagles and Queen are the bomb! Next wud be the sync pop of the 80s as I was a young adult. I also like Doo Wop a lot but the sound quality is so poor.

  11. I just dig all kind of music/songs N the more they provoke this naive world, the better I feel.
I can handle Madonna,Pink,Aquilera,Lady Gaga etc,N they R my darlings, especially "stupid girl" from Pink.So U also like to music rojak. But do not 4get the belacan N sambal!I'm givin U the taste now.
Every 1 knows that even law can not handle criminals, its tough these days.Every 1 R stubborn N desperados!
Just imagine killers, murderers, rapists etc can be tamed by the sound of music,N turned into mousy mousy kittens!
Watch them in Youtube under "prison inmates dancing to Thriller".The prison Director from the Philippines should get a Nobel prize or something.
    I told U I'm a Utube junkie!.
