Mystery of Grand Dad's WW II Medals - Part 1

I decided to renew my search to uncover what exactly was my dad's (Nic's grand dad) role in World War Two. So after a few minutes I came across three web sites that could help. First and most obvious was the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence (MOD) but I had to download a couple of forms, complete them and either fax or mail them to UK.

Next were the World War II Forums and Malayan Volunteers Group (MVG) web sites. I posted a message on both sites and got a reply from a member 7 minutes later who suggested I make an inquiry in the general enquiry forum.

It is the reply from the MVG that caught my attention. A gentleman named Jonathan Moffat duly replied as follows;

Dear Daniel

Thanks for your enquiry which we will put on the website quite soon.

I've had a first search of our 1941 Volunteers rolls without finding him [plenty of Lees!] but will check again and also check my late 1930s Straits Settlement Volunteer Rolls. Of course he may have served in the regular Army, RAF or passive defence services [Medical Auxiliary Service, ARP etc].

To help narrow the search can you tell me his approx. age in 1941 and where in Malaya or the Straits Settlements he lived?

best wishes

Jonathan Moffatt
