Mystery of Grand Dad's WW II Medals - Part 2

Wed, Apr 7, 2010 at 7:33 PM

Hello, Daniel

Logically, this should place him in 2nd Selangor Battalion FMSVF except he is not on our roll based on the medal rolls. The postcard you have clearly shows he is on a medal roll. However, the Defence Medal criteria fits more with Selangor LDC i.e. not operational duties. I will sound out a medal collector friend.

On my next visit to National Archives, Kew I will revisit the medal rolls and also the Selangor LDC roll which I think is filed there.

Where are you located, Daniel?

best wishes
Jonathan

No luck yet I'm afraid. The suspense is killing me. I wonder what happened that made my dad not want to talk about the war. Perhaps he saw so much gore that he did not wish to be reminded of it or he was not in "operational" duties and so was spared the terror that engulfed the country.

note: FMSVF = Federated Malay States Volunteer Force
